old swinton teams info
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO WRITE SOME THING ABOUT A TEAM THAT HAS NOW FINISHED PLAYING FOR SWINTON - PLEASE DO SO AS WE ARE STILL IN TOUCH WITH MOST OF OUR PLAYERS
DAD'S
back in 1992, tom's son played for a local football club, the manager did not seem to be up to much and tom thought he could do better than him. so he got together with mike Carroll and started   fundraising, they managed to raise £1000.00, which bought a portacabin. this became the base for the club and miss baker from Grosvenor rd primary school let them use their school pitch for a small fee, as he also trained the school team.
they started Swinton boys fc with one team, soon other children wanted to join in and that is how it started.
in 2002 we eventually got a place to call our own SWINTON CRICKET CLUB although toms team had played from there for a few years, it was only when the cricket club disbanded that we had the opportunity to take over the running of the place as our own which was and still is an up hill struggle
we now have 20 teams from u7's up to u16's [18 boys teams, 1 girls team & a ladies team of mums ] all teams are doing well in their respective leagues all managers do a fantastic job as do the committee members they all give their time freely and giving up their spare time to train, play games, organise team outings, attend meetings, arranging team tournaments and fulfilling football association requirements in order to manage a football team
late in 2004 we had enough girls to form a team it was not easy but we found a female coach and a secretary to run the team.
as a result of the girls team the club decided to replace the word BOYS with the word JUNIOR
all work done by members, managers & committee is voluntarily done and the club relies heavily on fund raising. so please do try to help and support your team and club when functions are held.
after all its your club & we are a unique community
thanks for your support

Tom Holmes   [club chairman]
